Leaflet set in seedling

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to share this.
A cross I performed was between a tetraploid modern shrub rose and a diploid china/bengale rose.
Mother plant has mostly 7 leaflets, so does the pollen donor.
A resulting seedling has got mostly 9 leaflets on entire plant.
Fascinating.
A little note to the case: Both mother plant and seedling are completely MD-resistant. The pollen donor is very MD-sensitive.

Interactions of traits in hybrids is endlessly fascinating.

For example, Burbank's Raspberry x Strawberry produced flower clusters a foot across, sometimes with hundreds of blooms. Nothing like that in either family.

Then there is the Citrange raised by Swingle (1911): "Fig. 7 — Citrange, No. 45095 (Citrus trifoliata crossed with the Thompson Navel orange); shows many 5 foliate leaves."
