Color of hips Abraham Darby

What color should ripe hips be on Abraham Darby? In terms of time, it's time to ripen, but all the hips are completely green. I saw a photo of a 20 week old hip in the helpmefind and it is also completely green. Thank you very much in advance!

If I remember, the hips were green when I cut the stem to bring in. I put it in a vase of water on the windowsill where it could get light. It seems it started to color a bit. I'm not sure if I kept it extra time or if that was just to get it to full time. I don't think it colored much though. I think lack of heat, especially cold nights might have effected it. What have your temps been like?

At the moment, 110 days have passed since pollination. The hips of other Austin roses are already orange.

It seems Abe is one of those that don't color up much. Some other Austi s haven't for me: Claire Austin and The Wedgewood Rose are both at time and aren't changing color. A Shropshire Lad, which has served well as a seed parent, colors up a bit. My Lilian Austin is coloring up now. Gertrude Jeckyl colored up well. I can't remember with Mary Rose, Princess Alexandra of Kent, The Generous Gardener, or The Squire.
Wish I could remember more accurately with Abe.

Brite Eyes, its kiddo, turns bright orange for me. When I used to own Jude the Obscure, another kiddo, they always stayed bright green for me. Aloha, its parent, can get slightly tinged hips. Its other parent, Yellow Cushion, has a patent that state they can turn "apricot".

I think the safest bet would be that AD would color up just some but not completely.

Thanks! I thought it was time for the hips to ripen. Last year I got a sapling from AD, from a completely green hip, but with the help of embryo rescue.

Many patents will state hips and other odd traits, so be sure to check them. They're available to view for free through our government site. The data may be skewed to location of testing, but its likely to be in the ballpark if they state it at all.
