Prickle free

For those interested in pursuing smooth roses, I raised an OP seedling out of Mike Shoup’s Promises. No prickles on mature stems. Tiny bristles on new growth that disappear as stems mature.

A number of Shoup's named selections do have relatively few and/or small prickles, often due to the use of 'Basye's Blueberry' and sometimes Heritage ('AUSblush') in breeding. This one's parentage isn't recorded in HelpMeFind.com, but one or both of those could be in the mix here, too.

Bonica will also give prickle-free, despite being heavily bred from Rosa wichurana. Applejack can give heavily-reduced prickles.
