Baby Love seedling
An openly pollinated seedling of Baby Love that has somewhat rugosa type leaves and is very thorny, much like rugosa itself. Hopefully this one will have yellow blossoms. So far no diseases.

Hi Rob! That's great!! I hope it is yellow too and would be a new option for a rose like 'Topaz Jewel'.

Hello Rolf. The only rugosa types that I have this summer are Ruglauca, Nyveldt's White, Metis and MORjerry. Ruglauca is situated closest to Baby Love. It will be interesting to see what the bees may have done for me.

It'll be interesting to see how that one turns out, Rob. It looks like it could be x Ruglauca.

That's what I was thinking Joe. It would be cool to have some shade of yellow and more than 5 petals.

Re: Baby Love seedling
Update: A pic from this season
It's slow growing with smaller leaves and disease free so far. It may turn out to be a miniature rugosa. I"m hoping that I'll have blooms next season, the 2 year mark.

I tried loading 3 pics and 3 would show up in preview but when submitted only one shows up.

Re: Baby Love seedling
Not much to update on this one. It has grown a bit this season but no blooms yet. I'm hoping for the first blooms next season. Disease resistance is still good. I did notice that distance between internodes is closer than a normal rugosa.

I'm curious. Did the rose gave flowers this year? A new mini yellow rugosa hybrid?

Re: Baby Love seedling
Looking at the seedling's helpmefind.com page, linked above, it appears that Rob did see it bloom in 2020 and then adjusted his thoughts about its likely parentage (see the note just under the disease resistance statement):
"After first bloom it's believed that this is not a Baby Love seedling."
There are no photos of the bloom, but it's probably safe to assume that it had no yellow coloration.

Re: Baby Love seedling
That's exactly right. The first bloom was a deep pink.
