Morning Magic F1
I have a number of Morning Magic seedlings where MM was used as seed parent. ILC1-72-1 (Indian Love Call x 1-72-1) and Midnight Blue were pollen parents. All have exhibited excellent disease resistance but none have bloomed this first season. Can anyone suggest any possibilities for the lack of blooms?

Morning Magic has some rugosa alba in its heritage, perhaps as a grandparent or great-grandparent. Maybe the way rugosas don't bloom the first year despite ending up to be everbloomers has been passed on.

That would make sense Joe. The MM hips are somewhat rugosa looking to me. You may have something there. Thank you.

95% of my Morning Magic F1 are showing superior disease resistance so I won't mind waiting a season to see what the blooms will look like.

Re: Morning Magic F1
When it comes to Morning Magic F1 seedlings blooming, it appears that this season may be different than last. I have F1 seedlings from a cross made last season, Morning Magic x Strawberry Cream, that are in bud at 3" tall. These are the first Morning Magic seedlings I've raised that will bloom the first season. Strawberry Cream is one of my striped miniatures that is Rose Gilardi x Rose Gilardi. I'm hoping for a smaller shrub with striped blooms and the health of Morning Magic.
