Paul Olsen passed along a link to this article which discusses mostly Larry Dyck's 'Never Alone' rose. 'Never Alone' sold 48,000 plants in its first year. Paul reports that he has seen large hips on plants of this one, so if you can grow it it might be a worthwhile parent.

Photo of 'Never Alone' taken by Jim Coutts, Unity, Saskatchewan in late August at the Russell, Manitoba RCMP detachment (very well landscaped). Note the abundance of hips on the stem in the upper right hand corner. Most flowers, if not all, were likely self-pollinated.

Very healthy in my garden until October and then some leaf spots. I used it in a numer of crosses as the seed parent this season and got a lot of ripened hips. OP hips as well.

HMF does not list a retail source for Never Alone. Where might I obtain it?

It looks like it may be a more fertile parent than Campfire. Campfire hasn't set many hips for me and the hips have very few seeds in them. I applied its pollen very heavily and got some good seed set on Carefree Beauty this year. Hopefully Never Alone will be more readily available in the US. I look forward to trying it.
