Re: Agnes as parent?

Remember reading maybe 12 years back an ARF “hot tip thread” input by Suzy Verrier late of Maine (gallicas and rugosas). Visited North Creek Farm after a corporate re-programming course in the wilds of Maine a couple of decades back. She was save campaigning as lamenting that Bailey(s) had a field o...

Re: Free Rose El Ariana - Prefer not to "compost"

Only source l had in Canada seems to have done a Geschwind retreat for spring 2022. Palatine in Niagara Falls Canada. Export to States. But none on site offered (except Gypsy Boy but sold out). They never carried El Ariana, but a half dozen or so a few years back. Tried them all and the residual don...

Txs for the info, that makes two northern European banks l am aware of … …. another is the Svalbard Global seed bank. Entrance monolith looks like a viking long boat in the process of burial. Its 810 miles from North Pole. Quote from garden mag article: SVALBARD GLOBAL SEED VAULT By Claire Lui “ In ...

Re: First R. setigera Results

R.setigera didn't survive its second winter in north garden (Calgary, Alta). R. maximowicziana has no issues in garden - l templated off related Finnish experiences looking for pseudo “climber” core stock parents (Jukka HMF photos) and MARBGardens. Low disease pressure - no spray garden. No crosses ...

Re: What is happening in peach hybridizing.

It always amazes me to see a large pear bearing fruit (probably between 15-20 feet high) in our neighbourhood. Not palatable but good for “landscaping as not scraggly or excessively twiggy”. Looks to be same type l grew and grow - dog default hydrant target business finished the first before chicken...

Re: olds college rose

I like the rose because depending on “climate” in the garden the bloom is quite the changeling. Some years first bloom very full and great apricot blend, others l have to call it orange blend and later season blooms are solid orange - no yello noticed. In my winter it dies to crown or a couple of st...

Should mention also ordered extenders, 1 set containing two side extenders that were cut by 28% from first set price … total levels per 2 new tray is 3.

Re: Went Cadillac for winter cutting season

Well don't quote me, and l don’t work for the seller or re-seller (who will remain anon.). The reason l say this is l just saw a price from them thats got to be wrong or corrected … significantly less by more than 60% what l paid for first set … so l order another 2 …. Feels like gambling for rose n...

Hi Margit, The 48” tubes are l believe standard fluorescent spectrum … stand from a few years back and has good quality removable trays suspended on longitudinal cross member. The though sounds odd, l always balk at the price of fluorescent grow light tubes in the box stores. I would require 6. One ...

Re: Went Cadillac for winter cutting season

Txs. The robust design, materials type, thickness (rigidity) and construction quality hit the need issues square on for me. In terms of capacity they will close-fit 3 rows of 5 of rectangular 11 cm nursery pots (+/- 4 inch). Have not found a big or small gripe yet, but that only takes time. Cost wis...

Hi Kim, I lie, most of the refund is for that other Bacchanal support stuff, but figured "pol unexcep" terms of quantity ... but not quality :-)) Setup photos. Access for cleaning, misting and watering can be done by lifting out of the dovetailing slot an upper stacked section(s) and sliding (with C...

Went Cadillac for winter cutting season

For decades l never had a cheap answer to accommodate height of cuttings from a 6 month plus indoor season. Zone 4 A Cdn. Gave up on pop bottles large wine plastic fermenters, one piece nursery high domes etc, etc, etc. Decided to cash in pop bottles and get two of these systems plus 2 more height e...

Re: My floating seeds are germinating MORE than my sinkers

Well l add very little value to these observations … none of my sinkers or floaters germinated from a test of 6 to 8 crosses and ops …. I have a more fundamental barrier to cross. Happy to hear you got germination.

The other observation l read was rugosa floaters, not sinkers, are the germinators …

I enjoyed it - still only 1/3 through. My absorption capacity is low - but there are moments of “ah” got it. So far it distilled on a practical applicable level for me to looking at George Vancouver with more respect. Fortunately, here my black spot pressure is so very low (dry) that it is not a wor...
