Larry, that is great advice and I really appreciate everyone's input. Our local rose society is aging and there are no new member pools being worked. I had an idea that exists in 2 parts. Thanks Peter! The reason I asked the question, I was trying to create a curriculum for a science class. Basically, in a year's time, 2 semesters and the summer, go from pollination to germination to 1st bloom. The goal was to judge the best cross but I kept hearing from rosarians that you don't get ...

I have been told by several people that the first year's flower is not 'true,' that is, it does not resemble the flower the rose cross will ultimately produce: You have to wait till the second year's bloom to see what the cross will look like.
