Re: Seed failure.
I placed my boxes right on the soil (zone 5 northern Ohio). I used metal screens to prevent the "critters" from gnawing through plastic type screens.

Re: Categorizing the forum
I think that the word "swap" is misleading. Often rose hybridizers have been willing to give pollen, seeds, and or seedlings to other hybridizers without expecting anything in return (sometimes - many times not even postage).

Why not make the RHA a sub unit of the American Rose Society?

VIII International Symposium on Rose Research and Cultivation
Today I received the following: "We had initially planned to organize the VIII International Symposium on Rose Research and Cultivation next spring in Davis (CA). However, due to the COVID-19 crisis and the proximity with the IHC2022, we have decided to hold the symposium during the IHC2022 in Augus...

Re: Ph.D. thesis rose rosette virus
Rosesbydesign, I do not understand your questions. Are you able to read the thesis? My only information is from the thesis. I do not know where the author is now. If the information you desire is not in the thesis, my suggestion is for you to direct them to the thesis director. I should mention that...

Re: What can be done to improve forum engagement?
One possibility of a forum change is to have a general section and then have each Director be in charge of a section where specific topics that pertain to that section's conditions would be posted.

doing a search using the keyword "download"
Out of curiosity I did a search of the RHA forum using the keyword "download" (without the quotes).
The 145 results are at"
https://rosebreeders.org/forum/search.p ... s=download
You may find some (or many) to be of interest.

Ph.D. thesis rose rosette virus
See: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6182726/ph-d-thesis-rose-rosette-virus Page 123 " The original goal for exploring seed transmission was to verify that it is not occurring so that rose breeders have the option to recover crosses. However, though transmission rates are very low using symptomati...

XV int Symposium on virus diseases of ornamental plant
The XV International Symposium on virus diseases of ornamental plants is going to be a virtual meeting this December 13-17, 2021. https://www.ishs.org/symposium/682 https://www.dbs.nus.edu.sg/isvdop2021/ It appears that there is an appreciable charge to just attend the meeting by zoom (even if one d...

Re: NCPN-Roses Tier2 Meeting
Although I did attend the meeting, I do not remember if the spray Forbid was discussed for rose rosette virus control. The minutes of the meeting have not yet been posted. Did anyone remember such a discussion? I am asking because of this recent thread: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6167847/obse...
