Black growth on rose seeds? Fungus?

I left my rose hips in plastic bags and some went quite moldy, upon extracting the seeds from these hips I came across some dark growths on the seeds. I am thinking they might be some sort of fungus or mushroom? I cut it open and did not see any signs of insects, but I could be wrong. Sometimes these black lumps appear to originate on the flesh of the hip. Does anyone know the name of this, or can point me towards any past threads discussing this? Photos below.
