Re: Pretty seedling out of Sweet Spot Calypso

SSC is very disease prone and so far I have struggled to get around this. It had very bad mildew shortly after I got it (potted) but this disappeared once put in the ground where the supply of water was more reliable. This gave way to black spot and both my plants completely defoliated. Just an upd...

Re: What is your current choice of stratification medium?

Harvest seeds end of Feb/beginning of March, sown within a week in small flats (or in reality, ferrero rocher chocolate clear plastic containers, easy to maintain moisture, they sit behind glass so mileage may vary if in direct UV) with maybe an inch of potting medium, they germinate and develop a f...

Re: What is your current choice of stratification medium?

I don't, all germination happens during autumn and winter for me, it's the first day of winter here and many of the seeds I planted the early autumn (march) have tiny little flower buds. Hurray Australia! I never had much success with stratifying of any species (alstromeria, tulips, iris reticulata,...

Re: Pretty seedling out of Sweet Spot Calypso

The thing I get a lot from E4Y is drastic fading of the blotch in the sun. Jim has done a lot of work on this front and is making excellent progress on developing sin-fast blotches but it sure won't come from E4Y. Just on this, given your current preference to 4YEO, HMF seems to show it fades terri...

Re: Breeding with r.rubiginosa (aka Sweet Briar)

So I've been devouring the forum for information. I'm highly interested in the sweet briar and have learnt that: 1. has a configuration of R rubiginosa 4+1 2. foliage scent is passed maternally (given the 4+1 that's fair enough) now given the 4+1 kind of points out that pollen essentially behaves as...

Re: Pretty seedling out of Sweet Spot Calypso

I am a little bit, just seedlings a few weeks old with banksiae and a couple with rugosa at this point. Sweet Spot Calypso is very available here (Sydney, Australia) as the big hardware chain (bunnings) stock it. Only concern with Sweet Spot Calypso is mildew, it was really really covered in it when...

Re: F3 Hybrid Rosa Virginiana Seedlings

The second seedling O18 P20 is a (Baronne ed Rothschild X Mme C Testou) X Sympathie X (Mimas X R. virginiana). It is also displaying bluish foliage colouring with good vigour. I really like the foliage colour of that one but see no other mention of it in the forum search. Any other pics or details ...
