Re: R. moyesii 'Highdownensis'

>> I think I will try to use it as a seed plant, as wel as a pollen plant. FWIW I never got Moyesii to set seed with a foreign pollen including pollen from f1 x moyesii crosses. Yesterday I learnt that Moyesii as well as rugosa roses are both in the section Cinnamomeae. So I'm guessing that Moyesii...

Re: Rosa arvensis breeding

Hey David, I'm planning to buy R. arvensis 'Splendens' to give it a try. This seems a very beautiful rose and hopefully also shade resistant. I have no idea of the ploidy levels though. R. arvensis is diploid. Also, I'm thinking of combining moyesii 'Highdownensis' with arvensis, not sure yet wich o...

Re: Rosa arvensis breeding

Hi,

I see this is on old topic, but I am wondering, did anyone breed since 2004 with Rosa arvensis or with any Ayrshires?

Dane.

Re: R. rugosa Alba x Dr Harry Upshall

It's just a guess, but I believe she might continously flowering, but maybe also not winterhard?
It seems the seed did not went into dormancy, so maybe the rose also will not want to go into dormancy during the winter...

very fascinating!

Re: R. rugosa Alba x Dr Harry Upshall

Waauw André,

a very nice and strong new rose! Wondering if it will be continously blooming.
I don't know if the prickles have anything to do with the R.foetida influence...

Keep us updated! :)

Re: R. moyesii 'Highdownensis'

Thanks for your replies! I think I will try to use it as a seed plant, as wel as a pollen plant. Probably the seedlings that have Highdownensis as a mother will look more like the mother, because they will get more chromosomes from the mother. That's why I wanted to know, would they get 3 sets or 4 ...

Re: R. moyesii 'Highdownensis'

I guess, what I am wondering about is, would R. 'Highdownensis' (pentaploid) behave like a canina rose does, I mean, like a caninae meiosis?

Did anyone try to work with this rose before?

R. moyesii 'Highdownensis'

Hi Has anyone tried to breed with Rosa 'Highdownensis'? From what I read on HelpMeFind, it should be a pentaploid. But I am wondering how it will behave. Will it give 3 sets of chromosomes as a seed, or will it give 4? And the same for the pollen: 2x or 1x? I was thinking of using Duchese de Montebe...

Re: Wild Edric

Did anyone of you tried some more crosses with Wild Edric? I have the rose myself and would love to know if it's worthwhile to use it in a breeding program. Just a beginner breeder myself, so I was wondering... anyone, any success?
