Re: Exposing seedlings to blackspot and rust

Pierre, That is where I'm focusing my efforts. Bringing tolerance/resistance into the miniature class. I've replaced 90% of my breeding stock over the last couple years to work to that end. Last season produced some very resistant minis/micros from: Westerland x (Golden Angel x L83) Illusion x (Gold...

Re: Exposing seedlings to blackspot and rust

Jackie,

I leave BS prone seedlings in the group to expose all of the seedlings to that strain of BS. I think it helps ID seedlings that are more tolerant and maybe worthy of keeping based on that tolerance.

Re: Magic Wand F1

Kim,

Thanks for the link. Something like that would be great. Somewhere still packed from my last 2 moves is a 5" magnifying glass that's attached to a flexible stand that clips to a desk surface. I've got to start digging through some boxes to find it.

Re: Bud at leaf axis

I'm going to hold on to mine and see what the growth hait is and how it blooms. I'm hoping it's a good thing.

Kim,

Even with my glasses I'd probably need one of those large magnifying glasses used in labs. lol

Re: Magic Wand F1

I agree with you about micros making good patio pot plants. The MW OP seedling has opened to a white full blossom of about 1/2" at the most. I also have a few micros from Quadra x Cherry Sunblaze that I'm holding on to.

Re: Magic Wand F1

Paul,

I like both 'MW-OP-03' and 'Oui'. Micros are definitely ones for collectors! I could see myself collecting really nice and unusual ones.

Re: Magic Wand F1

Paul, Thanks for posting the link. I like your mw-op-03. The one I have comes from the seeds that you sent me. The color is exactly/similar to yours as is the size. The first bud should be opening very soon but so far it looks to be at least semi-double. Can't tell anything about scent with my nose....

Re: Bud at leaf axis

André,

That is exactly what's occuring with my Bonica seedling. Hopefully this is an indicator of a heavy bloomer. :-)

Magic Wand F1

I have one 2" Magic Wand seedling that is in bud and the buds are no bigger than a grain of rice...amazing little thing.

Re: Source for Star Dust

Thanks for the reply all. Burling let, me know that she does't have it.

Andre, if you are able to root a plant for me that would be great. Otherwise cuttings would be greatly appreciated.

Bud at leaf axis

I'm growing a lot of Bonica seedlings and looking for something different to show up. Most are like their mother. One that I've pulled out is completely thornless. It has one bud about to open and has also developed buds at the leaf axis. I've not seen that in any of my other seedlings. What does bu...

Does anyone know a source for Moore's Hybrid Bracteata, 'Star Dust'? Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking for rose with multiflora blood breed with

Paul, I do love JJ. Beautiful rose and as mentioned healthy in my garden. I'm sorry to read that you are seeing some BS issues in your area with JJ. Keeping that in mind I'll be selective in what I use the pollen on. I would love to try your fertile orange/red/flame sibling from the same cross if yo...

Re: Looking for rose with multiflora blood breed with

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I've looked at the roses mentioned and checked out ploidy, multiflora blood percent and descendants. While looking at descentants of multiflora I noticed that Paul Barden's 'Jeri Jennings' lists 12.5% multiflora blood. I grow this one and I love the color, bloo...

Re: Looking for rose with multiflora blood breed with

Paul,

I was thinking 1st or 2nd generation remontant multiflora to combine with wichuraiana and rugosa descendants to combine hardiness and disease resistance for use with minis but didn't think about RRD, as Kim mentioned. Back to the drawing board. :-) Thanks guys.

Looking for rose with multiflora blood breed with

I'm looking for a good rose with multiflora blood to use in breeding with miniatures. I came across the pentaploid 'Waterloo' (seedling of Seagull × Rosa multiflora 'Nana') on HMF. Can anyone share experiences with 'Waterloo' or suggest an alternative? Thanks in advance.
