The foliage is particularly attractive too. A very nice blend achieved from two very different parents.

"a Zone 3 cane-hardy, fully reblooming rose that's not a rugosa."

Well said. That is indeed the "Holy Grail" for northern rose breeders.

That is a cross I wish I had the opportunity to make. Nice! Good chance you'll have a modest second flush late season similar to Prairie Peace.

Re: First germination of the winter

That sounds like a great cross Rob. 'Ramblin Red' does well at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.
Looking forward to your report on the outcome.

Great crosses Andre. I really like the 'Prairie Youth' x 'Hazeldean'.

Re: Spring Observations

Joe, Sorry to hear of your bad luck with the spray. Maybe the folks at the local golf course can recommend something. Twenty years ago, I could spray Roundup at the base of my shrubs around the time the grass was 3 inches high and before the leaves emerged. It worked well by killing the grass withou...

I have never seen hips with seeds on 'Agnes'. It tries to form them but there is only fluff inside.

Re: Darlow's enigma

Joe
Your Darlow's Enigma seeds may have larvae from the rose seed wasp Megastigmus aculeatus nigra which was introduced as a biological control of Rosa multiflora. We have its near relative megastigmus aculeatus in Alberta. I found larvae in every seed of some crosses. :(
