Re: Petite Knock Out Rose - AVOID

It’s funny Don mentioned educational tool because I did read it as that and as a result will probably be signing up for an online patent class. Just how many embodiments can you have? Really though, how does one argue a patent pending? Is there a public comment period? Also, is there a precedent for...

Woody Plant Seed Manual (USDA)

I didn't see this already posted to the forum. Includes some general planting protocol for species. Rosa is on page 974.

Soil Mix for Seedlings

Hi Everyone, I'm getting a late start to my seed planting this year (my 3rd year!), but I'm wondering if I should change up my seed soil mix this time. My process is as follows: Collect seeds and clean, plant in 3 inch pots in groups of 5. (I skip the refrigerator step because 1. kids would attack t...

Re: I think I'm killing my seeds

Is there a way that you can simplify your processes? I believe in simplicity. Perhaps as an experiment take 50% (or another number that makes sense to you) and cold stratify them already planted in an unheated nursery when the outdoor temperatures warm to “refrigerator-ish”. I know I’m only running ...

Culling

Do you have photos of your ugly culled plants? I've read the booklets cover to cover, but I could use some visuals here. I'm preparing to do my first culling of my second year plants that are in pots this spring (once winter has done some of the work for me). I already have some amorphous goals, but...

Reading List

I'm in a lull for tasks right now so I'd thought I'd do some winter reading.
What is on everyone's reading list?

Re: Visions of Sugar Plums

Don, How did you guess my initial strategy? Seriously, though. Crossing everything allowed me to see how plants were behaving on a twice daily basis. I learned a little bit about how the pollen and stigma responded in a few different varieties. Also, that I had to be really quick with some of the sp...

Visions of Sugar Plums

Warm season's greetings. A beginner's update on record keeping, etc. Any advice on methods appreciated! I ended my intentional crosses at about 280 with a hip and seeds added here and there for a total of 800+ seeds. I labeled each cross on the stem of the hip with a label maker. Data entry was done...

Re: R.glauca help?

Hi! I just planted R. glauca this year mid-summer. There were 3 intentionally pollinated and 9 OP hips. The picture was taken on August 17th. You can see a few of the hips to the right. I harvested and shelled on October 2nd and planted about a month later. When harvesting, the hips were getting qui...

Re: Favorite Miniatures

Hi Mark, I updated my profile. An 8B seems kind of middle-ish in the rose world and I'm willing to try lots of different kinds to see what works locally.

Thanks for the many suggestions Kim and Donaldvancouver!

Favorite Miniatures

Hi Everyone,
Do you have some favorite miniatures you like to use in your hybridization program? Especially tetraploids and diploids?

I removed a part of the lawn to make room for more roses. :)

First Fervor Greetings

Hi RHA forum! I don't know what happened to me. One day I was a work from home landscape architect, with small kids and then bam a little article on a vogue rose and a couple of YouTube videos later and I now have 280 crosses, a husband interested in micropropagation, and two kids whining about walk...
